The birth of the museum

The Museum of Fashion Foundation was founded the year 1999 by Jorge Yarur Bascuñán, grandson of Juan Yarur Lolas (president and founder of the Yarur Manufacturas Chilenas de Algodón) and son of Jorge Yarur Banna (president of the Banco de Crédito e Inversiones, BCI). The exhibition area was formerly the Yarur residence.
The museum was founded with the Yarur Bascuñán family legacy of the 50´s and 60´s. Through donations and acquisitions at auctions throughout the world, the estate grew, achieving significant collections of clothing, textiles and sporting goods that range from 5BC to this day.
Before its inauguration in July, 2007, the home underwent restoration work, as well as investigation, compilation work and conservation work of pieces that today add up to over 10,000 pieces, this collection being a true representation of the elements that make up the history of fashion in the world.
The Museum of Fashion has the mission of becoming an innovative cultural organization in charge of recollecting, conserving and educating on fashion, textiles, clothing, accessories and architecture, considering these as patrimonial objects that represent specific cultural periods. In this manner, the museum aims at contributing understanding and appraisal of these historical, esthetic and technical aspects.
